FINDING PEACE IN A POSTCARD: MY EXPERIENCE AT A POSTCARD CABIN
The Postcard Cabins, a network of charming tiny homes nestled in scenic locations across the US, promise an escape from the everyday. My recent stay at a Shenandoah Valley cabin, just outside Charlottesville, Virginia and drivable from the Metro DC and DMV area, delivered on that promise in many ways, offering a peaceful retreat for reflection and rejuvenation.

WHAT I LOVED
Tranquility & Reflection
The cabin provided the perfect backdrop for a much-needed escape. I used my time to journal, set intentions for the new year, meditate and simply enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.
Cozy Comfort
The cabin itself was cozy and well-appointed, offering all the essentials for a comfortable stay. I particularly enjoyed cooking over the fire and savoring hot drinks while gazing out the picturesque giant window.
Nature’s Embrace
The surrounding grounds were beautiful, with trails inviting exploration. The location, nestled in the mountains, offered stunning scenery while still being conveniently close to Charlottesville for groceries and other necessities. I even opened the windows to let the fresh air fill the cabin.
Fireside Charm
Evenings by the fire were a highlight. The warmth and crackling flames created a truly cozy atmosphere. They provide bundles of firewood and fire starters on site to fuel your stay. There are also grills and tinfoil provided so you can cook up goodies right on the fire.

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE
Customer Service Challenges
I encountered some difficulties when trying to reach customer service to address a minor issue. They do not take phone calls and they take about 24h to respond to an email. I’d suggest being very thorough an offer your own problem solving so they can respond rather than waiting to hear what they come back with. I needed to change my dates due to a snowstorm. In hindsight, I would have offered my available dates in my initial email to expedite the process.
Cabin Location
My cabin was situated near the entrance, leading to some traffic noise and frequent sightings of neighbors. I understand that locations vary, so this may not be an issue at all cabins. It would be wonderful if you could know ahead of time or choose your own location on the map.
Accessibility Considerations
The cabin’s layout presented a little bit of a challenge for me, with a significant step up and down to reach the bed and bathroom. It was manageable, but this would be a significant barrier for anyone with limited mobility. If you have mobility issues, please make note of it in your reservation.
PRO TIPS
Pack Cozy Extras
To enhance your comfort, consider bringing along extra pillows, blankets, and a favorite candle. The bed linens are very minimal, so I appreciated having the extra coziness.
Consider Late Checkout
Paying for a late checkout allows you to maximize your relaxation time. I definitely needed more time to live the slow life. I tried to add it on after my stay started and the system would not let me.
POSTCARD CABIN STATS
- Number of Outposts: 29; 1,200 cabins

Despite a few minor drawbacks, my stay at the Postcard Cabin was a truly enjoyable experience. The peace and tranquility of the setting were exactly what I needed. I’m curious to see how the cabins evolve under Marriott’s ownership, particularly in terms of addressing accessibility concerns and enhancing the customer service experience. Until then, take advantage of the many sales they have been having and book yourself a getaway!
